Old Cobblers Farm™ Wicked Tuff Turf Chicory (Cichorium intybus) is a perennial forb — a broad-leaved, non-grass plant grown for forage. A perennial comes back year after year (here, a 3–5 year stand). Its strength is timing: it reaches peak growth during the mid-summer slump, the stretch when cool-season grasses go dormant and forage runs short.

Chicory’s taproot — the single deep central root — drives more than three feet down and “mines” minerals, pulling calcium, zinc, copper, and other trace elements up from deep soil and concentrating them in the leaves animals eat. It also contains condensed tannins (natural plant compounds), which give chicory a natural tendency to reduce internal parasite loads in grazing livestock. This is a forage characteristic, not a veterinary treatment or cure.
