How to Apply
-2–3 lbs per 100 sq ft. One 5 lb bag covers 170–250 sq ft broadcast, or about 170 linear feet of potato row.
– At planting: work 2–3 lbs per 100 sq ft into the top few inches of soil across the bed, or band it in a shallow furrow 2–3 inches to the side of the row. Do not place granules in direct contact with seed potatoes, bulbs or transplant roots — set them beside the seed piece, then cover.
– Midseason side-dress: apply a second feeding at the same rate alongside the row as tubers begin to size, then hill soil over it. This is the timing the source data specifies for this formula.
– Carrots, beets, parsnips and turnips: broadcast and rake into the seedbed before sowing. These crops fork and split in coarse, lumpy soil, so break the bed down finely as you incorporate.
– Onions, garlic and shallots: incorporate before planting, and side-dress once during active leaf growth. Stop feeding well before harvest so bulbs cure properly.
– General vegetable beds: 2–3 lbs per 100 sq ft mixed into the topsoil before planting.
-Always water in thoroughly after applying, and never exceed the recommended rate.
-Best timing: at planting and again midseason during active growth. Avoid applying to frozen, saturated or snow-covered ground, and avoid heavy applications immediately before a downpour.
-Phosphate note: this product contains 16% available phosphate. Several states restrict phosphorus fertilizer on established lawns — those rules apply to turf, not to the vegetable-garden use this product is made for. Check your state's requirements before applying anything containing phosphate near turf or surface water.
