Product Description
The fastest, most economical path to high-protein fall grazing — a brassica that's ready in 6–8 weeks and stretches your season past the first frost.
Forage Rape (Brassica napus), also called Oilseed Rape, Rapeseed, Colza, or Canola (low-erucic-acid varieties), is an annual brassica grown for fast, economical forage. It produces dense, upright, leafy growth (2–4 ft) that's grazing-ready in as little as 6–8 weeks — one of the fastest forage crops there is. The leaves and stems are high-protein (about 15–20% crude protein) and highly palatable for cattle, sheep, goats, and deer. It tolerates moderate frost, so it keeps feeding well past the first freeze, and it is the most economical brassica per acre — the most high-protein forage for your dollar. A favorite double-crop after small-grain harvest, it puts otherwise idle late-summer ground to work. Our seed is uncoated and tested for purity and germination.
Key Benefits
• Lightning-fast: grazing-ready in 6–8 weeks, one of the quickest forage crops.
• Most economical brassica: the most high-protein forage per dollar.
• High-protein nutrition: about 15–20% crude protein, highly digestible.
• Frost-tolerant: survives light to moderate frost for extended fall grazing.
• Deer magnet: a strong late-season attractant for food plots.
• Clean, uncoated seed: no fillers, coatings, or dyes.
Best Uses
• Late-season livestock grazing extension
• Deer and wildlife food plots
• Double-crop after small-grain harvest
• Cover crop and soil-health improvement
• Emergency forage and feed-cost reduction
Where It Fits Among Brassicas
Think of rape as the speed-and-value option. It is faster and cheaper than kale (which takes 90–150 days but stands through deep winter) and grows taller leafy browse than turnips (which add an edible root bulb). Rape's sweet spot is a quick, affordable flush of high-protein forage with moderate frost tolerance — ideal when you need green feed fast or want to double-crop idle ground, rather than season-long deep-winter standing feed.
How to Graze It
Introduce livestock to brassica grazing gradually, with other forage or fiber available alongside, since a sudden switch to a heavy brassica diet can upset rumen digestion. Strip-graze — give access to one section at a time — to maximize utilization and reduce trampling waste.
Important Notes
This is a forage and food-plot brassica, not a backyard garden vegetable or a turf grass. As a brassica, rotate thoughtfully — avoid following other brassicas (turnip, kale, radish, canola) back-to-back to limit disease buildup. During establishment, watch for aphids and flea beetles.
