Product Description
A cold-hardy clover that thrives in wet, acidic ground — fixes nitrogen and feeds pollinators where other clovers struggle. (Not for horses; see safety note.)
Alsike Clover (Trifolium hybridum) is a short-lived perennial legume — it lives a few seasons and, as a legume, does nitrogen fixation (it pulls nitrogen from the air and stores it in the soil). Its standout trait is tolerance: it handles wet ground and acidic (low-pH) soils that many clovers can’t, and it’s very cold hardy (USDA Zones 3–8). It blooms generously, making it an excellent pollinator and bee plant, and it works well for cover cropping, green manure, pollinator habitat, and wildlife food plots. Our seed is uncoated and tested for purity and germination.
⚠ IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE — NOT FOR HORSES: Alsike clover can be toxic to horses, causing photosensitization (skin lesions) and liver damage, especially with sustained grazing or alsike-heavy hay. Do NOT plant it in horse pastures or feed it to horses (fresh or as hay). Use it only for cover cropping, pollinator habitat, wildlife plots, and non-equine wet pastures.
Key Benefits
• Wet & acidic tolerance: performs in damp, low-pH soils where many clovers fail.
• Cold hardy: a tough short-lived perennial for Zones 3–8.
• Nitrogen fixer: builds soil fertility naturally for the next crop.
• Pollinator-friendly: abundant blooms support bees and other pollinators.
• Clean, uncoated seed: no fillers, coatings, or dyes.
Best Uses
• Cover crop and green manure
• Pollinator and bee habitat
• Wildlife food plots
• Wet pastures for non-equine livestock
Important Notes
Alsike is a forage/cover-crop legume — not a residential lawn or turf grass, and it does not tolerate foot traffic. The seed is very small, so sow it shallow (about ¼ inch). Inoculate with Rhizobium trifolii before planting (uncoated seed is not pre-inoculated). And, as above, it must not be used for horses.
Why Choose Old Cobblers Farm™?
Every bag of Wicked Tuff Turf seed is selected for high purity and strong germination, and tested so you know what you are planting — consistent, clean, uncoated seed for farmers, land managers, and growers.
Application Instructions
Application Instructions
