Steady Organic Feeding for Tomatoes — Fruit, Not Just Foliage
Old Cobblers Farm Wicked Organics Tomato Fertilizer is a blended organic feed built for heavy-feeding fruiting crops — tomatoes first, plus peppers, eggplant, and squash. Its 5-3-4 analysis is matched to how these plants actually grow: moderate, mostly slow-release nitrogen so plants build strong, healthy foliage without running to all leaves and no fruit; 3% phosphorus for early root establishment and flower formation; and 4% potassium, the nutrient behind fruit quality — cell-wall strength, water regulation, flavor, and shelf life. Of the 5% nitrogen, 3.5% is water-insoluble and released gradually by soil microbes, with 1.5% water-soluble for a steadier start, so feeding is even across the long tomato season with no flush or burn.
Fed into the planting hole and side-dressed monthly through bloom and fruit set, it keeps the supply steady right when tomatoes need it. Because it's protein-and-mineral based, it also feeds the soil biology — the microbes and earthworms that cycle nutrients and unlock micronutrients in the root zone.
The honest part that every tomato grower should hear: this feed supports vigorous, productive plants, but it does not prevent blossom-end rot. BER is caused by a calcium imbalance — almost always from inconsistent watering — not by a shortage of N-P-K. Feed well with this, yes, but manage blossom-end rot with steady, even moisture and adequate calcium. One ingredient note: this blend contains animal protein meals, so it is not a vegan product.
Key Benefits
Foliage without going to leaf — Of the 5% nitrogen, 3.5% is water-insoluble and released slowly — strong, healthy foliage without the runaway leafy growth that excess nitrogen causes at the expense of fruit.
Roots and blossoms — 3% phosphorus supports early root establishment and flower formation — the start of every fruit.
Potassium for fruit quality — 4% potassium drives fruit quality: cell-wall strength, water regulation, flavor, nutrient density, and shelf life.
Season-long steady feeding — Fed at planting and side-dressed monthly, it keeps the supply steady right through bloom and fruit set.
Feeds soil biology — Protein-and-mineral inputs feed the soil microbes and earthworms that cycle nutrients and unlock micronutrients.
Non-burning — 100% slow-release-leaning nutrition means no flush or burn — safe for seedlings and mature plants alike.
Where to use it: tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, and other heavy-feeding fruiting crops, in the ground or in containers.
Application Instructions
Application Instructions
-At planting: 1–2 tablespoons per planting hole, mixed with the backfill soil
-Side-dress: 2–3 oz per plant monthly during bloom and fruit set
-Containers: 2–3 tablespoons per gallon of soil, mixed thoroughly
Steps:
1. At planting, mix 1–2 tablespoons into the backfill soil of each hole so roots grow into a fed zone.
2. Side-dress established plants with 2–3 oz each, around the base and lightly incorporated, monthly through bloom and fruit set.
3. For containers, mix thoroughly into the potting soil.
4. Water thoroughly after each application to activate soil biology and start the microbial nutrient release.
When and how often: at planting, then monthly side-dressing through the bloom-and-fruiting stretch. The slow-release character means even feeding without frequent reapplication.
What NOT to do: do not rely on it to prevent blossom-end rot (manage calcium and consistent watering for that), do not over-feed with nitrogen expecting more fruit (excess N grows leaves at the expense.
Ingredients
Ingredients
-Natural Sulfate of Potash — Natural potassium source for the 4% potash — the nutrient behind fruit quality and flavor.
-Phosphate Rock — Natural, slow-available phosphorus source for roots and flower formation — it releases gradually rather than all at once.
-Vegetable Protein Meals — Slow-release organic nitrogen from plant proteins, released by microbial breakdown.
-Animal Protein Meals — Additional slow-release organic nitrogen from animal proteins. (Animal-derived; this product is not vegan.)
-Natural Nitrate of Soda — A natural nitrate source contributing the water-soluble nitrogen for a steadier start.
