Product Description

Built for the Acid-Lovers. Organic 4-6-4 with the Sulfur, Iron, and Manganese

Old Cobblers Farm Wicked Organics Evergreen Fertilizer is a blended organic plant food — our first multi-ingredient organic — formulated specifically for ericaceous and acid-loving plants. Its 4-6-4 analysis is built from a mix of organic and mineral sources (protein meals, bone char, natural sulfate of potash, nitrate of soda, and elemental sulfur), and the nitrogen is deliberately split: of the 4% total, 2.5% is water-insoluble, meaning soil microbes release it slowly over the season, with 1.5% water-soluble for a steadier start. That insoluble majority is what makes this a genuine slow-release, non-burning feed safe for sensitive roots.

What sets it apart for acid-lovers is the supporting cast: it supplies iron, manganese, and sulfur — exactly the micronutrients that become more available in acidic soil and that ericaceous plants depend on. The elemental sulfur also works gradually to support the acidic conditions these plants prefer. (It supports acidity over time rather than dropping pH overnight, so on stubbornly alkaline soil, pair it with a soil test and a dedicated acidifier as needed.)

It's best fed in fall — perennial roots are especially active in autumn and store nutrients for winter hardiness and spring growth — or in spring as foliage begins. One note on ingredients: this blend contains animal protein meals and bone char, so it is not a vegan product, and like other bone- and protein-based feeds it can attract pets; incorporate it and store it securely.

Key Benefits

The acid-lover micronutrients — Supplies iron, manganese, and sulfur — the micronutrients that become more available in acidic soil and that ericaceous plants depend on for deep green foliage.

Supports acidic soil — Elemental sulfur works gradually to support the acidic conditions azaleas, blueberries, and rhododendrons prefer.

Genuine slow-release — The 2.5% water-insoluble nitrogen releases slowly through microbial breakdown — steady, season-long feeding rather than a flush.

Non-burning on sensitive roots — A low, gentle analysis with slow-release nitrogen means no nutrient shock or root damage on sensitive plants.

Fall feeding for hardiness — Best in fall, when perennial roots are active and store nutrients for winter hardiness and a strong spring.

The whole acid-loving bed — Azaleas, rhododendrons, blueberries, gardenias, hydrangeas, camellias, and more — one feed for the whole acid-loving border.

Where to use it: azaleas, rhododendrons, blueberries, gardenias, hydrangeas, heaths and heathers, huckleberries, mountain laurels, camellias, raspberries, ferns, pachysandra, and other acid-loving shrubs and trees.

Application Instructions

-General application: 2–3 lbs per 100 sq ft
-Acid-loving shrubs/trees: 1 lb per 2 ft of crown diameter, broadcast evenly beneath the drip line
-Containers: 2–3 tablespoons per gallon of soil
Timing:
-Fall (preferred): feeds active autumn roots for winter hardiness and stored nutrients for spring
-Spring: apply as foliage begins, for branch growth, leaf surface, and bud formation
Steps:
1. Broadcast beneath the drip line, where the feeder roots are concentrated — not against the trunk.
2. It can be applied over mulch, but plants respond faster if you temporarily pull the mulch back, apply, then replace it.
3. Water thoroughly after application to start the microbial breakdown that releases the nitrogen.
4. Feed twice a year (fall and spring) for best results; if feeding once, choose fall.
When and how often: fall and/or spring; fall preferred if only feeding once.
What NOT to do: do not pile it against trunks or stems, do not rely on it alone to acidify badly alkaline soil (use a soil test and acidifier), and do not leave it surface-exposed where pets can reach it.

Ingredients

A blended organic and mineral formula derived from:
-Elemental Sulfur — Works gradually to support the acidic soil conditions acid-loving plants prefer, and supplies sulfur directly.
-Animal & Vegetable Protein Meals — Slow-release organic nitrogen released by microbial breakdown (the water-insoluble fraction). Note: includes animal-derived protein meals — this product is not vegan.
-Natural Sulfate of Potash — Natural potassium source for the 4% potash.
-Natural Nitrate of Soda — A natural nitrate source contributing the water-soluble nitrogen fraction.
-Bone Char — Supplies phosphate and calcium; animal-derived (calcined bone).
