One Ingredient, One Job. Slow-Release Organic Phosphorus for Roots, Bulbs, & Blooms
Old Cobblers Farm Wicked Organics Bone Meal is a single-ingredient organic fertilizer: steamed porcine bone meal, finely processed, with a typical analysis of 3-15-0. The 15% phosphorus is the point — it drives root development, bud formation, and flowering — while the gentle 3% nitrogen supplements without pushing soft top growth, and the zero potassium makes it a clean, targeted tool that slots alongside whatever else your feeding program uses.
Because it's an organic material rather than a mineral salt, bone meal feeds the slow way: soil organisms break it down gradually, releasing phosphorus over months instead of weeks. That makes it ideal in planting holes and backfill — for bulbs, transplants, and new trees — where it sits in the root zone releasing steadily as roots grow into it. Phosphorus barely moves through soil, so placement at planting is exactly where bone meal shines.
Key Benefits
High-phosphorus, organic — 15% phosphorus drives root development, bud formation, and flowering — the most concentrated organic P source in the catalog.
Genuinely slow-release — Soil organisms break bone meal down gradually, releasing phosphorus over months — one well-placed application at planting keeps working all season.
Made for the planting hole — Phosphorus stays where you put it, and bone meal in the planting hole or backfill sits exactly where new roots will grow — bulbs, transplants, and new trees especially.
Gentle on purpose — Just 3% nitrogen supplements gently without pushing soft top growth at the roots' expense.
One honest ingredient — A single disclosed ingredient — steamed porcine bone meal — with nothing else in the bag.
A rate for every job — Per-hole, bed, tree, lawn, and container rates cover everything from a tray of bulbs to a new orchard row.
Where to use it: vegetables and fruits, perennials, flowering shrubs, fall bulbs, root crops, trees at transplant, containers, and phosphorus-deficient soils confirmed by a soil test.
Application Instructions
Application Instructions
-Transplants: 1–2 tablespoons per planting hole, mixed with the backfill
-Established plants (side-dress): 2–4 oz per plant monthly during the growing season
-Trees and shrubs: 1 lb per 2 inches of trunk diameter, spread to the drip line
-New trees at transplant: 1–2 cups mixed with the backfill soil
-Bulbs: 1–2 tablespoons per planting hole
-Lawns: 5–10 lbs per 1,000 sq ft (soil test recommended)
-Containers: 1 tablespoon per gallon of potting mix
Steps:
1. Soil test first — phosphatic fertilizers should always be applied according to a soil test to prevent phosphorus buildup.
2. For planting holes (bulbs, transplants, trees), mix the measured amount with the backfill so it sits in the future root zone — never as a concentrated layer directly under roots or bulbs.
3. For beds and side-dressing, work into the soil surface rather than leaving it on top.
4. Water thoroughly after application.
When: at planting and bed preparation for the main use; monthly side-dressing in season for established plants. The slow release means one well-placed application works for months.
What NOT to do: do not apply without a soil test on soils that may already be high in phosphorus, do not leave it sitting on the surface where pets can reach it, and do not exceed the rates.
Ingredients
Ingredients
The single ingredient. Steaming sanitizes the material and prepares it for gradual breakdown by soil organisms — which is what makes the phosphorus slow-release. Derived from pork bone. (Typical analysis 3-15-0.)
