High Nitrogen, Released Slowly — Season-Long Feeding for Turf and Fruit Trees
Old Cobblers Farm Wicked Organics 10-2-8 is the highest-nitrogen feed in our organic line — but the way it delivers that nitrogen is the whole point. Of the 10% total, 9% is water-insoluble nitrogen from feather meal and meat & bone meal, released gradually by soil microbes through the season. So you get the strong, sustained feeding of a high-N product without the flush, leaching, or burn that fast nitrogen causes. It's a true all-season feed for turf and landscapes, and an excellent dedicated fruit-tree fertilizer for young and mature trees alike. The 8% potassium is high for good reason: it supports fruit size, color, flavor, sugar (brix), and firmness, and it backs drought and stress tolerance in turf and trees. The 2% phosphorus supports early root development and blossom establishment, and guaranteed calcium (1.8%) and sulfur (3%) round out cell-wall strength and metabolism.
On fruit trees — apple, pear, stone fruit (peach, plum, apricot), and citrus (lemon, orange, lime) — feed in early spring before bud break and again mid-season after fruit set, with an optional light fall feeding for winter hardiness. On turf, it's a season-long maintenance feed, especially effective applied during or after core aeration and useful ahead of overseeding. It also suits landscape beds, shrubs, and vegetable gardens where steady, sustained growth matters.
One important note: this blend is made from feather meal, meat & bone meal, and blood meal, so it is firmly not a vegan product, and because of the blood and bone content it can strongly attract dogs and other animals — incorporate it well and store it securely.
Key Benefits
High N, released slowly — Of the 10% nitrogen, 9% is water-insoluble and released slowly by soil microbes — strong, season-long feeding without the flush, leaching, or burn of fast nitrogen.
Fruit quality — 8% potassium supports fruit size, color, flavor, sugar (brix), and firmness in apples, pears, stone fruit, and citrus.
For every tree stage — Feeds young and mature fruit trees alike — early spring before bud break and after fruit set, with an optional fall feeding.
All-season turf too — A true all-season turf feed for warm- and cool-season grass, especially effective with core aeration and ahead of overseeding.
Added Ca & S — Guaranteed calcium (1.8%) and sulfur (3%) support cell-wall strength and metabolism beyond basic N-P-K.
Feeds soil biology — Natural protein-meal inputs feed soil microbes, improving nutrient cycling and long-term fertility.
Where to use it: apple, pear, stone fruit, and citrus trees, young or mature; all-season turf (warm- and cool-season); overseeding and renovation; and landscape beds, shrubs, and vegetable gardens.
Application Instructions
Application Instructions
-Lawns: 5–10 lbs per 1,000 sq ft, spring and early fall
-Fruit trees (young): ½ lb per inch of trunk diameter, in spring
-Fruit trees (mature): 1 lb per inch of trunk diameter, evenly distributed at the drip line
-Fruit trees (area-based): 5–10 lbs per 1,000 sq ft
-Containers: 1–2 tablespoons per gallon, monthly
-Overseeding: ½–¾ lb N per 1,000 sq ft, about 1 week before
Timing:
-Fruit trees: early spring before bud break, and again mid-season after fruit set; optional light fall feeding
-Turf: through the season; especially effective during or after core aeration
Steps:
1. For trees, broadcast from about a foot from the trunk out to the drip line; for turf, broadcast evenly.
2. Lightly incorporate or water in after application to move nutrients into the root zone and start the microbial release.
3. Split larger applications into two timed feedings rather than one heavy dose.
4. Feed fruit trees about twice a year (plus optional fall); feed turf through the season.
When and how often: fruit trees ~2x/year (early spring and after fruit set); turf through the season. A soil test helps avoid over-applying nitrogen.
What NOT to do: do not over-apply this high-analysis feed (go by the per-1,000-sq-ft nitrogen rate and split heavy applications), do not apply against trunks, and do not leave it surface-exposed where dogs or wildlife can reach the blood and bone content.
