Gentle by Design — The Low-Analysis Starter That Won't Burn a Single Seedling
Old Cobblers Farm Wicked Organics Seed Starter is a blended organic fertilizer built around one job: getting seeds, transplants, and new plantings established without the risk of burn. Its 2-3-3 analysis is deliberately low — and that gentleness is the whole point. Young roots and delicate seedlings are easily damaged by strong fertilizers, so this one keeps the numbers modest and leads with phosphate and potash to support root development, with just enough nitrogen for early growth and none of the surge that scorches tender roots. The nitrogen is split, too — of the 2% total, 1.2% is water-insoluble and released slowly by soil microbes — so feeding is steady and forgiving, even in the hands of a first-time gardener.
It works wherever something is just getting going: starting vegetable, flower, and herb seeds; moving transplants and nursery stock outdoors; installing new sod or seeding bare lawn; and setting out perennials, shrubs, and young trees, where it helps reduce transplant shock. Mix it into seed-starting and potting mixes, blend it into planting holes, or work it into a new bed.
Two things every buyer should know up front. First, this blend contains peanut meal, so it CONTAINS PEANUT — one of the most serious food allergens; anyone with a peanut allergy should not handle it, and it should be stored away from food and allergic household members. Second, it also contains feather meal and bone char, so it is not a vegan product and can attract pets — incorporate it and store it securely.
Key Benefits
Non-burning by design — The deliberately low 2-3-3 analysis won't shock or burn delicate seedlings, transplants, or young roots — gentle enough for first-time gardeners.
Root development first — Phosphate and potash lead the formula to support deep, healthy root systems — the foundation a new plant needs first.
Slow-release nutrition — The 1.2% water-insoluble nitrogen releases slowly with soil warmth and microbial activity — steady nourishment, no flush.
Easier transplanting — Supports faster establishment and helps reduce transplant shock when moving seedlings or nursery stock.
Versatile starter — Mix into seed-starting and potting mixes, planting holes, beds, or new lawns — one starter for every new planting.
Feeds soil biology — Organic ingredients feed beneficial soil microbes, building the biology that unlocks nutrients naturally.
Where to use it: seed-starting and potting mixes, transplants and nursery stock, root crops (potatoes, carrots, beets), legumes (peas, beans), fruiting crops (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant), perennials and flowering shrubs, young and mature trees, new lawns and sod, and landscape installations.
Application Instructions
Application Instructions
-Seed-starting mix: 2–4 tablespoons per gallon of soil mix
-Transplants: 1–2 tablespoons per planting hole, mixed with soil
-Potting mixes: 3–16 oz per cubic foot, or 5–30 lbs per cubic yard (adjust to plant needs)
Steps:
1. Blend it in: mix into seed-starting or potting mix, into transplant holes, or work into a new bed — it feeds through soil contact.
2. Because it's non-burning, you can place it right where roots will grow without a buffer layer.
3. Water thoroughly after applying to start the microbial breakdown that releases the nutrients.
4. Apply at planting/sowing; 1–2 additional light applications through the season as needed.
When and how often: at sowing, transplanting, or installation, with a light repeat feeding or two through the season as plants grow.
What NOT to do: do not handle or store it near anyone with a peanut allergy; do not treat it as a high-octane feed (it's a gentle starter by design — switch to a higher-analysis feed once plants are established); and do not leave it surface-exposed where pets can reach it.
