Product Description

Plant It With the Bulbs in Fall — Spring Does the Rest

Old Cobblers Farm Wicked Growth 5-10-10 is a fall bulb fertilizer with the analysis bulbs actually need at planting time: just 5% nitrogen — leaf growth is next spring's job, not autumn's — alongside 10% phosphorus for the root systems bulbs must build before the ground freezes, and 10% potassium for the hardiness and bloom quality that carry them through winter into spring.

Timing and placement are the whole trick with bulb feeding. Phosphorus barely moves through soil, so it has to be mixed in where the new roots will grow — which is exactly why this fertilizer goes into the soil at planting, right alongside the bulbs. Fed this way, tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and lilies spend the fall quietly banking root reserves, and that stored strength is what shows up as bigger, healthier blooms when the garden wakes.

Key Benefits

Roots before winter — 10% phosphorus, mixed in where the new roots grow, fuels the root systems bulbs must build before the ground freezes.

Hardiness and bloom quality — 10% potassium supports the hardiness that carries bulbs through winter and the bloom quality that rewards you in spring.

Low nitrogen on purpose — Just 5% nitrogen — autumn is for roots, not leaves, and the low-N analysis respects that.

Placed where it works — Phosphorus barely moves in soil; mixing this feed in at planting puts it exactly where the bulbs will reach for it.

Every spring bulb — Tulips, daffodils, crocuses, lilies, and the rest of the spring-flowering crowd — beds, borders, and containers alike.

Covers the whole planting — A 5 lb bag covers 250–500 sq ft or roughly 160–320 bulbs — an entire fall planting weekend.

Where to use it: new bulb plantings, established bulb beds, flower beds being prepared for bulbs, and containers — for tulips, daffodils, crocuses, lilies, and other spring-flowering bulbs.

Application Instructions

-New bulb plantings: 1–2 lbs per 100 sq ft, mixed into the soil before planting
-Established bulbs: 1–2 tablespoons per plant, sprinkled evenly around the base
-Flower beds: spread evenly over the bed and work into the top 3–4 inches of soil before planting
-Containers: mix 1 teaspoon per gallon of soil before planting; reapply every 6 weeks during the growing season
Steps:
1. At fall planting time, measure the rate for your area or container.
2. Mix thoroughly into the soil where the bulbs will sit — phosphorus stays where you put it, so placement matters.
3. Plant the bulbs at their proper depth and backfill.
4. Water thoroughly to settle the soil and start root growth.
When: in fall, at planting — that single well-placed feeding is the foundation. Established beds can be top-dressed at 1–2 tablespoons per plant.
What NOT to do: do not let concentrated fertilizer sit in direct contact with bulb basal plates (mix it through the soil instead), do not exceed the rates, and do not skip the watering-in.
