The three numbers — 6-16-12 — are the NPK ratio: 6% nitrogen (N) for controlled top growth, 16% phosphorus (P) to drive root development, and 12% potassium (K) for turf strength and stress tolerance. That high phosphorus is what sets a starter apart — it is the nutrient young grass leans on most to establish strong roots.

New seed, fresh sod and overseeded areas all need to put down roots before they can fill in and thrive. This phosphorus-rich blend gives them that foundation.
