Product Description

Grow the finest turf in the world — the ultra-fine, close-mow grass behind golf-course putting greens and bowling greens.

Bentgrass (Agrostis spp.) is a cool-season perennial — it grows in the cooler parts of the year and, with proper management, persists indefinitely. This blend includes three species: Creeping Bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera), Colonial Bentgrass (Agrostis capillaris), and Highland Bent (Agrostis castellana) — the latter two also known as Browntop and Fiorin. Bentgrass produces the finest-bladed, smoothest, densest turf available. Creeping Bentgrass is stoloniferous — it spreads by stolons (aboveground runners) — building the seamless, uniform carpet that golf greens demand, and it tolerates mowing as low as 0.100 inches. Colonial and Highland Bent are lower-maintenance options for fairways, tees, and fine lawns. All thrive in cool, humid climates with consistent moisture. Our seed is uncoated and tested for purity and germination.

Key Benefits

Ultra-fine texture: the finest-bladed, smoothest turf surface achievable.

Extreme close mowing: down to 0.100 inches for putting and bowling greens.

Seamless coverage: creeping types spread by stolons into a uniform carpet.

The golf-course standard: the species profile used on premium greens, tees, and fairways.

Multiple options: Creeping for greens; Colonial/Highland for lower-maintenance fine turf.

Clean, uncoated seed: no fillers, coatings, or dyes.

Best Uses

Golf-course putting greens, tees, and fairways

Bowling greens, croquet courts, and lawn bowling

Premium fine lawns and estate turf

     Fairway and approach blends

Low-input Highland Bent for naturalized fine turf

Know Before You Grow — Maintenance & Surface-Sowing

Two things are essential. First, surface-sow: Bentgrass is a light-dependent germinator, so broadcast it on the surface and do not bury the seed. Second, be realistic about maintenance. Putting-green-quality Creeping Bentgrass is a high-maintenance, hungry grass — it needs consistent irrigation, frequent close mowing with proper equipment, regular light fertilization, thatch management (core aeration and topdressing), and an active fungicide program, since it is susceptible to dollar spot, brown patch, pythium, and snow mold. If you want fine-turf quality with less intensive care, the Colonial and Highland Bent in this blend are the lower-maintenance route for fairways and fine lawns. This is a specialty fine-turf grass, not a low-input, walk-away lawn.

Why Choose Old Cobblers Farm™?

Every bag of Wicked Tuff Turf seed is selected for high purity and strong germination, and tested so you know what you are planting — consistent, clean, uncoated seed for turf professionals and estate owners building the finest surfaces.

Application Instructions

Conditions
USDA Zones 2–6; full sun to light shade; well-drained sandy loam or sand-based root zone; pH 5.5–6.5. Excellent drainage is critical for putting-green varieties.
Seeding rate: Putting greens 1–2 lb per 1,000 sq ft; fairways/lawns 2–4 lb per 1,000 sq ft; about 30–50 lb per acre.

How to plant
Surface-sow only — Bentgrass is a light-dependent germinator, so broadcast evenly on a prepared surface and do not bury the seed. Plant late summer/early fall for best results. Keep consistently moist (irrigation essential) through the 10–14 day germination; full density in 2–3 months.

Mowing & care
Maintain a strict mowing schedule — 0.100–0.150 in for greens, 0.5–1.5 in for fairways and lawns. Creeping Bentgrass is a hungry grass needing regular light feeding, thatch management (core aeration, topdressing), and an active disease program for putting-green quality.

Ingredients

Bentgrass blend (Agrostis spp.) — Highland Bent (A. castellana), Creeping Bentgrass (A. stolonifera), Colonial Bentgrass (A. capillaris). 100% pure seed, no fillers, coatings, or dyes.
